The Shanghai Science and Technology Museum covers an area of over 68,000 square meters. Its exhibitions are divided into five main halls: the Hall of Earth, the Hall of Life, the Hall of Wisdom, the Hall of Creation, and the Hall of the Future, along with a temporary exhibition hall. The museum features seven exhibition zones: Exploring the Earth’s Crust, Wonders of Life, Light of Wisdom, Audio-Visual Paradise, Designer’s Cradle, Children’s Science Park, and Natural History Museum. It also includes three specialized theaters: a 3D dome theater, a spherical theater, and a 4D theater.

Location: South side of the Municipal Center Plaza, at the east end of Century Avenue, Pudong New District.

Transport: Take Metro Line 2 and get off at Shanghai Science and Technology Museum Station.

Useful Information

The Science and Technology Museum parking lot is located outside Entrance 2 of the museum and is divided into three zones: A, B, and C. The parking fee is ¥10 per session for small vehicles and ¥20 per session for large vehicles.

The museum has three Visitor Service Centers located on the underground 1st floor, 1st floor, and 2nd floor. These centers offer free services such as maps, wheelchair rentals, stroller rentals, luggage storage, mobile phone charging, and drinking water.

The museum provides guided tours to introduce visitors to the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum’s display concepts, exhibition halls, and exhibits. Tours can be reserved at the Visitor Service Centers and last between 1.5 to 2 hours. Service hours are from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM.


Exhibitions in Shanghai Science and Technology Museum

Underground Level 1

Underground Level 1 is the most service-focused public area of the museum. It features the ticketing hall, a large food court called “Big Food Court,” a relaxation lounge, and a temporary exhibition hall. Additionally, the IMAX 3D Giant Screen Theater and the Dome Theater are located in this area.

The Dome Theater has a dome with a diameter of 23 meters and a tilt angle of 30 degrees. The inclined screen creates a sensation of floating in mid-air for the viewers. During screenings, the projector is raised to the central viewing window of the theater by an elevator. The film is projected onto the tilted dome screen through a 165-degree fisheye lens, enveloping the viewers in an immersive experience, as if they are surrounded by the imagery from all angles.

Ground Floor Exhibition Area

The ground floor is the main exhibition area of the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum’s Phase 1 project. It includes five exhibition zones: “Biodiversity,” “Earth Exploration,” “Children’s Science Park,” “Rainbow Paradise,” and “Designer’s Cradle.” It also features a 4D Dynamic Cinema. In addition, there are service facilities such as the APEC Main Venue, a relaxation hall, and a coffee lounge.

If you are driving to the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, it is recommended to park your vehicle in the parking area located on both sides of Gate 2 on Dingxiang Road. Enter the ticket hall on this level through Gate 2, purchase your tickets, and then proceed through the ticketing channels to visit the various exhibition areas. It is advisable to start with the “Biodiversity” exhibition area to avoid crowds.

Second Floor Exhibition Area

The second floor houses four exhibition zones: “Earth Home,” “Information Era,” “Robot World,” and “Spider Exhibition.”

Earth Home: This zone explores the interdependence between humanity and Earth, addressing the challenges humanity faces in development.

Information Era: Visitors can enjoy interactive exhibits that showcase the benefits of the information age, inspiring hope for a better future.

Robot World: This section features various robots, allowing visitors to interact with and test their skills against these robotic creations.

Spider Exhibition: Experience the life of spiders up close and marvel at the diverse forms of life in this fascinating exhibit.

3rd Floor Exhibition Halls

The 3rd floor of the museum features three main exhibition areas:

Exploration of Light: This area showcases the remarkable technological advancements of the 20th century. Visitors can easily explore the wonders brought by achievements in quantum theory, relativity, and more.

Humans and Health: In this area, you can take an engaging “Journey through the Digestive System” to learn about your body. Various physical tests are available for you to challenge yourself and understand your health better.

Space and Astronomy: This section offers an array of space models and provides an opportunity to experience astronaut training. You can also enjoy a mysterious and thrilling space voyage in the “Space Theater.”
