North Sichuan Road Revived Old Streets Of Shanghai

North Sichuan Road stretches approximately 3,700 meters, with Wujin Road as the boundary. The southern section and the central and northern sections belong to the Zhapu Road Subdistrict and the North Sichuan Road Subdistrict, respectively. As described in “Shanghai Local Chronicles,” the area is known for its vibrant atmosphere: “North Sichuan Road is bustling with dance halls, mid-range movie theaters, Cantonese restaurants, and tea houses… There are numerous beauty salons and massage parlors, and it is the most prosperous street in Shanghai, second only to Nanjing Road and Fuzhou Road, with bustling traffic and crowds of pedestrians day and night.”

Today, North Sichuan Road is considered Shanghai’s third-largest commercial street, after Nanjing Road and Huaihai Road. The southern end of North Sichuan Road begins at the Suzhou River, while the northern end is marked by Luxun Park. Yujingpu runs through the central section of North Sichuan Road, and the North Sichuan Road Park and Aisi Children’s Park add charm to the area. Four-Five Warehouse War Memorial Museum

The Four-Five Warehouse, built in 1931, is a joint venture warehouse funded by the Jin Cheng, Central South, Mainland, and Salt Industry Banks of old Shanghai. It is a six-story building constructed with reinforced concrete. As a bank warehouse, it features formidable defenses with thick, high walls, making it extremely secure. During the Battle of Shanghai, many patriotic soldiers were stationed here, bravely resisting the Japanese army’s attacks. The entrance of the War Memorial Museum retains the original iron gate of the Four-Five Warehouse, with rust marks that tell stories of past valor and heroism.

On August 13, 2015, the Four-Five Warehouse War Memorial Museum was inaugurated on the 78th anniversary of the Battle of Shanghai. The museum uses graphic displays and large-scale paintings to showcase the history of Shanghai’s people’s dedication to the national resistance and their fight against foreign invasion, as well as the recognition and commemoration of the heroic deeds of the “Eight Hundred Heroes.”
