Who is Madame Tussaud
Madame Tussaud (1761-1850), originally named Marie Grosholtz, was born in Strasbourg, France. She was a renowned French artist famous for her wax sculptures. Her breakthrough came in 1777 when she created a wax figure of Voltaire, which established her reputation. During that period, she also made wax figures of other prominent individuals.
In 1835, she opened the first permanent wax museum on Baker Street in London. Over time, the museum added wax figures of other notable personalities, including Horatio Nelson and Sir Walter Scott. Some of the wax figures that Madame Tussaud personally crafted are still on display. A wax figure created by Madame Tussaud herself in 1842 is now placed at the entrance of the museum.
