Giant Pandas At Shanghai Wild Animal Park

Shanghai Wild Animal Park is proud to house five giant pandas, a rare and beloved species that never fails to captivate visitors. These pandas include Jia Jia, Kang Kang, Xue Bao, Qian Jin, and Qi Qi. Here’s a closer look at each one of these gentle giants.

Jia Jia (嘉嘉)

Jia Jia is the only mother panda in the park. She has a spirited personality and a fierce sense of independence. Born in 2012, Jia Jia was relocated to Shanghai Wild Animal Park where she became a mother for the first time in 2015, when she gave birth to Kang Kang with her partner Zheng Zheng. Jia Jia is known for her strong fighting spirit and protective nature, outshining Zheng Zheng in her resilience.

Kang Kang (康康)

Kang Kang is Jia Jia’s son, born in 2019. Though his father remains unidentified, Kang Kang is a lively and playful panda. As the first panda born in the park, Kang Kang’s birth marked a significant milestone.

Xue Bao (雪宝)

Xue Bao is a lively and energetic panda known for his remarkable strength, especially in his legs and waist. With short legs and a large head, Xue Bao stands out among his peers. Despite his size, he is agile and powerful, excelling in balancing and striking poses. Born in 2017, he is currently the only son of his mother, Si Xue, and a true prodigy in the panda world.

Qian Jin, born in 2017, is the daughter of Qian Qian and an unidentified male panda. She is known for her curious and independent nature, often found exploring her environment with great enthusiasm.

Qi Qi (七七)

  • Mother: Gong Zhu
  • Father: Lan Zai

Qi Qi is the youngest panda at Shanghai Wild Animal Park, born on July 17, 2018. Her birth date holds special significance as it was the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Qi Qi is the seventh daughter of her mother, Gong Zhu, which is why she was named “Qi Qi” (meaning “Seven” in Chinese). In March 2023, Qi Qi faced a health scare when she suffered from intestinal obstruction, but fortunately, she has since recovered and is in good health.
