If you’re arriving at Pudong Airport in Shanghai and heading to Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street, the journey is straightforward and relatively quick. Whether you’re coming for shopping, sightseeing, or just to experience the bustling energy of one of Shanghai’s most iconic streets, here’s a step-by-step guide to make your trip easy and efficient.
1. From Pudong Airport to the Maglev Train
Once you’ve landed at Pudong Airport and followed the signs to the arrival area, you’ll need to take the escalator down to the Maglev and subway waiting zones. At this point, you’ll catch a small subway train to collect your luggage. Once you’ve picked up your bags, the plan is to store your luggage at the airport before heading to Nanjing Road for sightseeing, then check into your hotel later.
For luggage storage, we arrived at Terminal 1, and the storage area is located near Gate 6 on the first floor. We had two pieces of luggage – a large one for 45 RMB and a smaller one for 25 RMB – both stored for under 24 hours. It’s a convenient service, so you don’t have to carry your bags around.
2. Taking the Maglev Train to Longyang Road
After storing your luggage, take the elevator to the second floor and follow the signs to the Maglev train and metro. We opted for the combined Maglev and subway pass, which allows you to ride the Maglev (80 RMB per person round-trip) and take the subway as many times as you want within 24 hours (5 RMB per person for the subway). For both adults and children, the ticket prices are the same, making this a cost-effective option for transportation. The total cost for two adults and one child was 255 RMB, covering our travel for the day.
The Maglev train from Pudong Airport to Longyang Road takes just 8 minutes, with speeds reaching up to 300 km/h. It’s a thrilling ride, and once you reach Longyang Road Station, you can transfer to Line 2 of the metro and head towards People’s Square Station.
3. Arriving at Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street
After arriving at People’s Square Station, it’s just a short walk to Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street. Once you’re there, be sure to visit the MM Global Flagship Store. Since we were visiting during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, it was packed with people. We quickly grabbed a bag from the staff, let our child enjoy some M&M’s, and made a quick checkout. Next, we stopped by the LEGO flagship store, but it was so crowded that we couldn’t even get inside. Instead, we satisfied our cravings with delicious skewers from a street vendor—60 RMB for two, which the kids loved.
4. Walking Along the Street and Visiting The Bund
As we continued walking along Nanjing Road, we passed the Peace Hotel and took a quick photo. The street was lively, and we kept walking until we reached The Bund. By this time, it was getting crowded, and finding a good spot for photos became competitive. After snapping a few pictures, we used navigation to head to our hotel.
5. Hotel Check-In and Rest
Our hotel was the Le Meridien Shanghai Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street Hotel (丽呈美利居上海南京路步行街店), which was about an 8-minute walk from The Bund. We arrived around 9:00 PM and were finally able to check in and rest after a long day of exploring. It was a relaxing end to our trip, and we were happy to rest before the next day’s adventures.
Overall, getting from Pudong Airport to Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street is quick and easy, with options to store your luggage and convenient public transportation options to get you to the heart of Shanghai’s shopping and sightseeing district. Whether you’re visiting for shopping, sightseeing, or just enjoying the vibrant atmosphere, this route is perfect for a smooth start to your Shanghai adventure.
